I feel youre given a set amount of time to do with your life what you feel is best.
Well you say given, who gives it?

Life will eventually put you on the other side of every situation and hopefully, you learn from it.

Why you die any end up dust

I feel we are here to make our own decisions and make the most out of our environment during the time we're here.

And eventually the sun swells up and destroys all that you or anyone else ever created.

We make our own decisions, not what we feel some imaginary invisible being feels we need to do.
Maybe you are right, and if you are nothing you do, create or accomplish is worth anything. You are just dust in the wind dude.

Think about this, if i went around and told you stories that i made up and said that some guy who only talks to me told me you should give me money as i hold out a plate, you would think i was nuts. You would walk on and never give me a second thought.

And given what i know about you..nothing, you would be correct.

The only difference between that situation and organized religion is that their story is old enough to where people think it MUST be true if it's been around that long.
Well not exactly, you are some guy on an hvac talk forum and the other "guy" is the creator believed in by billions of people.

All we doooo..ooo crumbles to the ground but we refuse to see.

    What a beautifully depressing song.

(The wise men of modern thought) adore a god made of putty or of wax - plastic, effeminate, molluscous, with no masculine faculty about him, and no quality that entitles him to the respect of just and honest men, for a being who cannot be angry at wrongdoing is destitute of one of the essential virtues, and a moral Ruler who is not angry with the wicked, and who refuses to punish crime, is not divine. ---Spurgeon

In all honesty, I have no problem with Christians practicing their faith. I do have a problem with them trying to categorize non believers in their faith only to pass judgement.
This seems to be their secret 11th commandment... one that is heresy by nature and contrary to their own good book.

Take a look at this thread, use it as a microcosm and see who caused the digression.

If you dont know where babies come from, i'm not going to explain it.

Listen, i'm not a Christian hater/belittler/opposer or whatever. I just dont believe what they say and i refuse to participate in any form of religious brainwashing. If you believe what is in that little book and live it to the letter, fine, by all means enjoy life! I dont think any different of you. Some of my best friends are Christian/Catholics. I completely respect their devotion, but when they start to say that i should read the bible or ask me if i accept Jesus Christ as my savior, they've crossed the line. I dont push Atheism on anyone, DONT PUSH YOUR BULL**** ON ME!

People for too long have lumped in Atheists with Satanists and thats just not so.

DLZ stop whinging and whining like a baby. Your first post in this thread was disrespectful. I believe you called religious beliefs BS. Someone could as easily call your dedication to disbelief BS.
So when you get called to the carpet with a simple question, man up and answer it instead of being a baby. I asked if the worthlessness ever gets to you? I find disbelieving sad. It doesn't mean I think you should believe because if you don't you are an idiot.
It's something I've thought of because sometimes I don't know what to believe. The worthlessness of believing nothing really bothers me and at the end of the day it doesn't make any sense. So then I figure there must be a purpose. Once I get there mentally, I decide there must be a purpose then I have no choice but to consider our origin, creator etc.

Asking me if I know where babies come from is only avoiding the real question. but if you are seriously asking then tell me where the first baby came from, because I don't know.

Nobody's pushing anything on you in this thread, Im only asking you a question. If your answer is no, the worthlessness doesn't bother you than fair enough. If you are going to argue that life is not worthless, then explain to my why if it all ends in a super nova destroying all that man ever created.

I was merely explaining my stance. I was never whining.

I dont know why you feel if you dont have a belief, a belonging to some higher power, you are worthless. If you work hard to create a life for yourself, develop skills and leave a legacy behind other than "he really didnt do anything", can it be deemed worthless?

You are born and have X amount of years here. If you devote your life to yourself and turn "I can'ts" into "I dids" and when you die, you can say you did a lot, is it worthless?

BTW, My first post was that I THINK it's all BS, My opinion and i'm entitled to it. Just as everyone else in this thread is entitled to theirs. I dont see why i, along with other Atheists, am being attacked for my views just because they dont jive with the church-goers. That's not fair.

Maybe those overzealous Christians should be viewed as Christians gone wild!

No Christian is taught to judge others. In fact, Jesus Christ specifically taught that we have no right to judge others. Christians who judge are wrong, no matter for what seemingly good reasons, we as Christians are not to judge others, only to tell others the Good News and then only to those who are open to listen.

I actually mess with overzealous Christians who annoy me with their judgemental rhetoric.

I am a Christian in that I have come to believe in and to accept Jesus Christ as who He claims to be and as my Lord and Saviour. I have personal experiences which I consider proof positive for why I believe. I will tell anyone willing to listen about how I believe. Many people who have known me for years do not know this about me because I try not to impose my faith on those who do not wish to hear about it.

Well heck ace I guess that depends upon what church you went to. Not saying that Baptists didn't frown on it more than most. But we never brought that line.

Heck I had a good friend who was a gifted singer in church and the preacher was always cautioning him about not going to the other side and singing the devils music. He did join a local rock band for weekend gigs when he was s senior and tried to keep it a secret. Anyhow all that stuff is over now just a funny time in the past. Thank you, thank you very much

What do you have against reading a book? The Bible is actually a collection of stories, historical and philosophical, along with some letters between some interesting guy named Paul and a variety of audiences and even a dream sequence in which thousands of neat movies have been based around.

So, what's the problem with reading some stories?
