Advice on new AC/Heat Pump unit
I have three heat pump units in my house unfortunately. Looked into redoing the ducts but it was too costly. Replaced one last year with a new Lennox 2T and it works fine for a small area. Now have a leak in the air handler - 7 year old lower priced model installed by AHS - oversized & never worked right - not installed at same time as the compressor. Presently unit is completely out of freon (old type). Feel it might be best to replace the entire unit and start over. Given two options by local dealer who I like to use - Lennox XP14-036 15SEER - @**** 1yr warranty labor and I believe 5 year warranty parts from Lennox; or Trane XL15i 15 SEER @$**** which comes with 10 years parts and labor warranty. I'm in the dark about all this. May not be here another 10 years (I'm almost 65 and house is too big) but do want a unit which will work correctly - it's for the main part of the house which also has cathedral ceilings. Thanks for any advice.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a house that I didn't plan to keep long, but YMMV.

advice on new AC/Heat Pump unit
The Lennox is cheaper - and it's true I won't be in the house a long time, but need to do something. I'm afraid if I start looking for the leak in the air handler that that might just be throwing away money and I will need to get a new unit in the end. I have the other two units in the house so the middle section doesn't get too bad, but figure that's not a solution. BTW, will the unit heat in the winter through the heat strips if it's not cooling (right now it is completely empty on Freon). Also, the contractor I'm using is reliable and I like them - sorted through other ones when I replaced my other unit last year and these people are good I feel.
