The exams are exclusive. Passing one does not give you the other. RSES is an educational organization providing local chapter and national educational opportunities as well as their own exams. The RSES exams are more difficult and are more technical than practical.Originally posted by hoppyih

NATE does not provide educational opportunities but their exams are recognized as certifications by the government as well as nearly all the major HVAC manufacturers and all the major HVAC organizations such as ACCA, ARI, etc...
The NATE exams test on what 80% of technicians have at least an 80% chance of encountering in a year. NATE exams are less technical and more practical than RSES exams. Each serves a different function.

Whichever exam or exams you decide to take, the following book will help you pass.

In fact, the book will also help you decide which exam or exams to take. It also provides study tips, exam strategies and testing tips as well as detailed information on each of the exams available.
