James Arness (Matt Dillon) is dead

Kinda sad to hear that James Arness - Marshal Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke - died in his sleep at 88. He gave us a lot of years of great entertainment. RIP......

Would you believe he was the original Thing in "The Thing"?

    RIP Marshall...

He was a cool actor and my brother & I followed Gunsmoke for years. My big tough brother went to the Saturday Matinee to see "The Thing" by himself when we were kids.

My bother came walking through our door looking pale white and shaking cause he had to leave the movie early when the "thing" appeared. I'll never forget that.

About 20 years later I finally decided to watch the "thing" on TV by myself. Scared the crap out of me too...even 20 years later.

My brother still won't joke about his failure to be a big tough guy on that day just because some big carrot (that's what the space alien was) scared the crap out of him too.

James Arnes was good actor and a very astute business man. He was one of the richest men in Hollywood before the days of mega salaries he was a very smart real estate entrepreneur.
I am watching the mini-series How the West Was Won on Encore Western.

As a kid I tried to watch all the Gunsmoke shows. Yes, I remember the "Thing". Scared the cr*p out of me. He seemed like a nice man.
    May he rest in peace.

    Marshall Dillon. Miss Kitty. Chester.

Man, those were the days. Real TV.

The Thing. I will never forget the scientists waiting to close that switch and when the Thing stepped onto that spot and the the arcs of current were going from his arms to the walls....man that was some scary s**t!!!!!!

Chester was the limping side-kick, right? In my old days of cowboys and indians we had this elementary level joke going around. I think it's still kind of funny.

Marshall Dillion stops Chester who is running down the main street of town out of breath and asks him why. Chester tells him Ms. Kitty asked him out in the country side for a picknic and during the picknic Ms. Kittly started rubbing up against Chester and acting really weird.

Chester says next thing I know, Marshall Dillion, Ms. Kitty spreads out the blanket, takes off all her clothes, lays down and yells "Chester, go to town". So here I am Marshall Dillon.

Truly sad; I am not sure I am sad to hear he is dead, or sad that those days of good quality TV are over.....
