    Confused Payne Heat pump

I am an HVAC division Manager and have never seen this before.

I have a Payne Heat Pump Condenser that runs fine all winter, however when the summer hits the condensing unit will only run for fifteen minutes or so? Any thoughts on what is causing this?

Does the unit defrost properly in the winter?

You can figure out what's happening by determining which safety is shutting down the unit.

Should be relatively easy to figure out. Get your gauges and meter and do a diagnostic on the unit.

Actually spoke with Payne factory yesterday and when these are installed with additional line set lengths the scale for adding more refrigerant is wrong and causes us to overcharge the system by one pound. We recovered the one pound of gas and now the system is working perfectly again.
