I'm in nyc and was wondering whats the going rate for service calls, hourly rates and such.

I'll back his advice.
Training is a never-ending thing. I've been in the trade since 94 and I am continuously looking for new opportunities to improve myself professionally.
Now, I'm not a 'business' guy, but if you were planning on going out on your own, you'd think you would already have a fair handle on what costs and mark-ups and such would be.
