Myself, I would change the condenser, and drier. Its a lot cheaper than a compressor.

A few years ago I replaced the compressor on my Dodge Dakota and converted to R-134A. It has never cooled very well so I got some R12. Can I leave the POE in the system or do I have to replace it with mineral oil?

You need to replace the POE.
Mineral oil is best for R12.
Did you buy the new compressor with POE in it?
You should try R12a, if you can get it. You do not need to change the oil just evacuate the system. Runs much colder that 134a or 12
