That's a great pic, max. It's encouraging to see this great ship going to lend a hand.

HOLY COW! What a ship!
I don't know how much help 250 fighter jets will provide...
You obviously don't know what a Navy ship...let alone a US Navy carrier...with a crew of able sailors, is capable of doing.Originally posted by tonys

That ship by itself is a floating city. It can make fresh water from the sea far beyond its own needs, provide medical assistance, dispatch men and women into the stricken areas skilled in many areas, and set to many other tasks upon arrival. Food delivery, perhaps, as well as water.
Oh yeah...could even send out a helicopter or two for rescue operations...you think?

How about its helicopters and world class on board hospital and five thousand Sailors and Marines to lend a hand?
I hope you were only kidding and not really that up tight.
Oh and it's only got about 100 or so aircraft of various uses.

scare the crap out of looters in a hurry.
Don't forget, without the full air wing onboard there will be a few thousand bunks, showers, and meals avaliable for the passengers.

In reality if she had full air wing on board it would only be about 85 to 90 aircraft but the extra man power and services provided will be help full, plus you can pack a whole grocery store in the store rooms plus the hanger bay as well.
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat. (President Theodore Roosevelt)

all i can picture now that i have seen that carrier is when they evacuated vietnam and they were tossing helicopters off the flat tops to make room for all those people trying to escape.
desperate situation but where the hell are all the damned hospital ships?!
Here's your sign...
I think there on only 2 hospital ships, one for each coast and I would bet one of them is in the Persian gulf right now

it might be riding high with the air wing still at Oceana and the lower decks clear to help.to bad they couldn't have cleared an interstate or major road around N.O. and slipsteamed some cargo(water, mres)in with C-130s.those silver parachuted cylinders with all those staples within like in Empire of the Sun...that Speilberg movie did. http://www.ncts.navy.mil/homepages/cvn75/
