I read online somewhere, CNN maybe, that people are offering up their homes or spare bedrooms to the homeless. Reports were that people as far away as oregon and New Hampshire had offered to put people up. I'm in NH and have an apartment that's sitting empty. Is it practical to offer this up and if I did, how would I find somene in need (from the affected area), like a young family, and not someone just looking to relocate and live in a free rental?

I heard a report on NPR earlier today that some folks in Texas are offering to pay for storm refugee's local hotel rooms.
Why can't a large hotel chain like Holiday Inn or Motel 6 set up a charity deal with prepaid rooms for those in need?
