Should there be air flowing from here?

I'm hoping someone can answer what I expect is a simple question.

I had a new furnace and AC installed in December. This past week is the first time that I've used the air conditioning. I noticed today that when the system is running there is cold air flowing from a hole where an insulated pipe enters the system. I've marked it in the picture below. Is this normal, or is it the result of poor installation?

Thanks so much for your help!

We always wrap permagum (sp?) around those openings so they don't leak.

It should be sealed up. I would call the installing company to seal those holes before your labor warranty ends. Its nothing to be terribly concerned/upset about but its good practice to seal those penetrations.

It is definitely an air leak of some significance but where's the unit located? If it's in a closet within the living space, then the cold air is just being blown into the space anyway. If it's in a basement, then you might benefit by sealing it up. If it's in an attic, then you should definitely have it sealed. So, I guess I'd say, it all depends.
If YOU want change, YOU have to first change.

If you are waiting for the 'other guy' to change first, just remember, you're the 'other guy's' other guy. To continue to expect real change when you keep acting the same way as always, is folly. Won't happen. Real change will only happen when a majority of the people change the way they vote!

That's exactly the information I was looking for. I'll call the contractor on Tuesday morning and get them to come out.

Thanks for quick replies, it's much appreciated!
