Looking for any news references to other countries offering help to the United States in the aftermath of this calamity.

My take is there won't be any or very little, yet we give millions to countries around the world in their time of need. Perhaps we should stockpile for our own use? Should we cut back heavily on our contributions and force other wealthy nations to ante up more?

Reports I have heard so far is Israel stepped right up immediately offering aid and support, then England. Rumors of Germany, but no one will confirm.

Waiting to hear about more, but have not heard yet.

The Canadian Red Cross has 200 members about to head South and the Canadian military had offered the use of water purification equipment.

Like I said, Germany was a rumor, but right after that I heard Germany's foreign minister saying the Hurricane was because of global warming and Bush's failure to sign Kyoto..... but that's been covered enough in another thread !!.

I would definitely dismiss the Germany thing. Sorry for the misinfo !

I wonder if we qualify for United Nations aid? Probably not cause we support Israel and democracy.

The more I think about this the more I want to puke. Why have we been the world's big brother for so long?

Biggest problem right now is actually getting to survivors.
Knowing what is needed will probably take days.

EDMONTON (CP) - Canadian officials have started getting ready to send whatever type of aid the United States requires to help with the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan said Wednesday.

"We want to reassure the president and the people of the United States that we are their best friends and their neighbour, and we will be there to help them in a situation that truly is without parallel in our country or theirs," said McLellan.

Now that is comforting to know. I hope many more nations follow their example and lend a hand.

    God Bless our Canadian friends.

I may have been a bit hasty on condeming other nations. I have been hearing on some news reports that several Latin American countries have pledged aid and some others too although the news of this was very short. Maybe newsprint will have more in the coming days. I hope we get help.
