What makes the wax seal that the toilet rest on go bad.Too many taco's? I could understand movement of the toilet but this one has no movement . Solid, no movement. And it is only a couple of years old. I have company due in any minute for a couple of days and naturally this is when something happens. So I am about to go get one and replace it. Good thing it is raining all weekend.

I may find out when I get it removed that it's something else. Argh!

I think the one that is on there that is bad has the rubber collar. Are these good or bad?

They make a better product than the wax ring. We had the plumbing contractor replace all the wax ones (under warranty, they all leaked)with an armaflex-looking product and they've held up for 3 years with no leaks.

Get the solid wax ring (with out collar).

Movement is the biggest issue, other than that... I don't know either.

I don't think plumbers shave their legs.

The problem is not likely the wax ring, they don't go bad.

The closet flange is either bad or set wrong, call a real plumber

Actually I did this stuff before HVAC. The flange is cracked but with that rubber collar it covered it. The flange is PVC and I am on a slab. I have another collar here that has the rubber seal on it and I am going to put it back down with it on. That flange is going to need to be replaced and I have a feeling concrete will need to be chipped away. Already have enough problems and I am not doing that today.

I think the friggin toilet was messed up from the start. Looks like the bottom exit diameter is not right. Like the ceramic is not shaped right. Never has flushed very good.

I just took a hammer and knoked out about 20% of the over casting in the toilet that has been a obstruction for 17 years. Ya never know .
