Most contractors tell me that they have to drill one 200-300' vertical well for every ton of AC/heat (plus an additional well, according to at least half).

They all seem to sell a dual-stage system (with variable speed blower), although one contractor uses two systems (a single stage plus a dual stage) to get an effective 3 stages.

Why couldn't they (say for a 5-ton system) create the equivalent of a 5-stage system by simply allowing flow to only ONE well to get about 1-ton of cooling, allowing flow to only TWO wells to get about 2-tons of cooling, 3 wells for 3 tons, etc?
