Any hints or pitfalls to avoid?? My computer seems a little slow now and then and was thinking of formating to clean up the registry...yes, no.. maybe?Life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone.

Don't format
Use spyware or adware to cleanup the registry.

Before you go reformating, do a disk clean up and defrag of the hard drive, do a spyware check to see if there is something out there hiding, PCWORLD.com has some free stuff for checking that and adware as well. also check to see what programs are running in the backround that don't need to be. They can also bog a system down.

Before you go through all the hassle of reformatting try some of these free fixes .
Ad-Aware SE
SpyBot Search and Destroy
HiJack This
RegClean
Just Google any of the above for download links.
Always do a registry backup before making any changes.
These free programs should put some zing back in your puter.
Good luck.
P.S. Dont forget to clear your cache and history files from your browser.

Good ideas guys. Since the OP appears to be a little short of computer skills, I suggest going to Geeks To Go. Step-by-step instructions for cleaning your computer. I thought I was clean, but I was getting a pop-up here and there even with Google tool bar. So, I followed the steps outlined on that page. Wow! I had a lot of garbage on my computer. Good luck!

I formated this thing 2 or 3 times so far, also don't forget the spy blaster and ad award when you are done.
Really cleans up a lot of bugs in the computers, sometimes it's the only way, and memory is cheap, add some more if ya got room. Formatting ain't hard, only takes an afternoon.Hey cockroach, don't bug me! ©
