I hope that if they taught that in the place you were going to learn this trade, that you did sleep through that. Sizing by square footage is wrong information.

If they didn't teach how to size by running a proper heat load calculation, I'd be demanding a refund of my tuition.

See the banner at the top of this page that says "HVAC-Calc Residential 4.0"? Download the trial version of this thing and play with it until a light goes off in your mind that this is far superior to "size-by-thumb".

    • HVAC pyschrometrics is what makes indoor human comfort happen...IF the ducts AND the building envelope cooperate.

You should not have missed that during a 10 min classroom nap. I would be demanding a refund as well.

Why would you pay to learn something and then sleep through the class? Don't answer, I will not understand.

the square footage of the structure uh. what type of building materials insulation, wall areas and many more requirements, internal heat gains ect.. Building A materials 1234 # btu,s building B materials materials 5678 # btu's, square footage could be the same. Design, proper design will save a lot of money and headaches. Like some of the other guy have mentioned use the manuals. If your planning on making this your career don't fall a sleep. Falling a sleep could mean the differance between making money and not making money. The old saying you snooze you loose.
