As the weather gets hotter, the ice maker seems to make less ice. Why would external temp affect how much ice is made on the inside of the freezer?

ice makers are rated at 70deg air 50 deg water. as either one rises in temperature ice production goes down due to longer cycle times. the hotter it gets the more ice you need and the less you get. one of lifes injustices.

It is really an issue when the condenser is outside ,and if you add a dirty coil as stated earlier it will get really long

    Amen

Here that's a fact of life.
Try telling a restaurant owner that some out of town company sold him a 600 lb unit and IT WILL NOT make 600 lbs in a normal working day (say 8 hours!). They say that's what they were told they will make..... Ha Ha..

We tell them to call the seller back, the unit is working. It gives you 450 lbs in 24 hours your doing good.
( Air temp over the condenser at 110°f and water temps at 85°f.)

yep yep, just did an IceOCrapic 0806 today. Rated at 1094 lbs / 24hrs - it's just barely making 610. 85* ambient, 83* water. She's giving it all she's got.
