    Some people commonly add "baffles" into the duct,usually a piece of sheetmetal ,to try to balance air flow,by diverting air to certain branch runs.

    No idea if that's what you are looking for.

    Baffles(n,pl) a number of problems whose origin is not clearly understood, resulting in a confused service person, home owner or other.
    ex: I was baffled by one bad part that immediately failed, but when a 2nd & 3rd part failed, I was experiencing a case of the "Baffles".

    we use baffles on the return side of a closet model furnace if the fan/air noise is a problem for the homeowner... it helps dampen down the noise basically. seems to not be that big of a problem with the air handlers though.
