grass clippings in fins

How much of a problem is it if grass clippings get caught in the fins of the outside unit?

I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing when I was mowing and blew a bunch of clippings from the mower into the outside unit and the grass clippings got caught up in the fins.

lets see how important it is when u are hot because unit not cooling wash the outdoor coil and br careful

Decrease in efficiency depends on the actual amount of airflow restriction.

Clean up Time ... Do you have a yard blower?
Blow them BACK OUT.
It may be easily to clean after a few days when the grass clippings have dried and shrunk some.

Use of a Strong water spray can significantly DAMAGE the fins.

Should not mow when a/c condenser is running, will suck
up clippings into coil.

Best thing to do is take water hose and with medium
water pressure, rinse clippings off coil by squirting
water into coil at a 45 degree angle while a/c
condenser is off.

Use your thumb pressed against end of hose to produce
water pressure to rinse out clippings. Do not spray
water anywhere but the coils, and be careful not to
spray motor, or get near electronics.

If you do not feel comforatable doing this, call an
A/C contractor. Unit should be cleaned from the inside
out every 2 years by a pro anyway, more in a dusty
enviroment.
