WalMart disgust me.
If the Chinese monetary adjustments have any effect on WalMart's line it will only effect the workers even more.
They just don't care.

Well I am outside of the US.
When I visit the US, I will stock up on stuff at Walmart. My view is my money is going into the American Economy. The way we build has a greater impact on our comfort, energy consumption and IAQ than any HVAC system we install.

walmart practices do disgust me also.
but this is a free country, and if they want to structure their business in that way, well they have the right to do it...
I say the blame is on our legislature.they make the trade policies and have the power to revise them.
why do they all feel the only options they have is to direct their imports tariffs at the foreign goods of just one country at a time, or for just one commoddity at a time?
this is how trade wars start.
this country, from the beginning has had across the board tariffs for ALL goods coming into this country.
these isolate our economy from the rest of the worlds.
for the last two hundred years ,multinational intrests have repealed those tarriffs, leaving us with the trade gap we have today.by having minimal tarriffs left.
this only hurts our industries by making them compete with the labor pools abroad.
business has always needed foreign goods. and we paid for them. in a free trade world, the biggest conglomerate multinational have the competitive advantage of scale on their sides, and pay little or nothing to either the exporting country OR the importing country.
and their multinational status, usually makes it possible to not pay much in tax to this country either.
this is just not good for americans...
sure the top 5% of these companies executives says it is great (for americans like them, that 5%)but most of us just get to but three pices of crap from china that lasts as long as one good piece that could be made here, and support OUR economy.that is investment in america...
and that is a good thing in my book.
these freetraders ought to be booted out and their propaganda stuffed where the sun won't get at it.
too bad these representatives we have in this era, are posibly the lamest this country has ever had. and our children will pay the price.they will probably curse the generations around now, letting this stuff happen.
or maybe they will be too ignorant and busy and possibly illiterate to ever know.

I would have to dis-agree with who's to blame Remember.
It's the consumer who is to blame for allowing WalMart to get away with their practices.

The website's claim is that Walmart costs America $2 billion a year in what might be the welfare costs of taking care of walmart employees who don't get employment benefits.
In my opinion, Walmart employs the otherwise unemployable and gets them off of Welfare to barely eek out a meger living so I don't have to support them.
A walmart employee making $6 an hour with no benefits would be making $6 an hour somewhere else if Walmart wasn't there to pay it. My experience with Walmart is that most of the $6 employees are making just about what they're actually worth.
Any walmart employee who is unhappy with their employment situation should learn a trade, get a degree, or otherwise grab a hold of their boot straps and get pulling.

In today’s economy wherever you shop you are probably buying Chinese goods. Wal-Mart doesn't pay retail clerks any less than every other retailer out there. My wife works at Foley's part time and makes seven dollars an hour. It is not worth her time but she likes the discount on clothing.
To us it is no big deal if she makes a decent wage or has benefits but to others that work there it does. This is a major department store here in Houston not cheap to shop at.
The point is even the more pricey retail outlets don't pay that well and don't provide any type of benefits either. Do you honestly think the people at K-mart Target Kohl’s etc.. are compensated any better than those at Wal-Mart.
We do need to do something to make it a more competitive playing field on imported goods from all countries not just China.

I want to agree with some of what nomember has posted but she rambles on so much going in so many directions that I cannot just say "nice post nomember".
And I just don't have the energy or patience to sift through what I agree with, but, I do agree with at least the first couple of paragraphs of nomembers tirade.Government is a disease......masquerading as its own cure…Ecclesiastes 10:2 NIV

I don't like or support WalMart because of their business pratices in reducing each and everyone connected to them to the lowest common denominator.
Interesting enough the public may already be speaking their mind in my part of the county as two of our close in counties here have rejected the major building of Wall Mart stores here based on their negative environment impacts to the local business environments. See, when Wall Mart moves in they pretty much collapse all the other big or little businesses around them that sell anything competitive.
I think people are starting to catch on how much their low prices really cost us."The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers it can bribe the public with the public's own money.

Just read an article in today's bizz section. Costco pays high wages, great benefits. Employee retention is high. Their management values employee loyalty, productivity and gladly rewards it.Originally posted by classical
