When a 3 1/2 ton Evap. is installed with a 3 ton condensing unit........
(piston type metering device)
Do you use piston for 3 or 3 1/2 tons ??
Don't you always use the piston that matches the cond. unit?
There's still only the amount of refrigerant flowing in the evap. coil as a 3 ton........
Why bother with installing the 3 1/2 ton evap. coil if you only use a 3 ton piston??
Use the piston that came with the outdoor unit. Oversized evap increases sensible and SEER slightly so may have to do that go get the rated SEER. Decreases humidity control, not something to do in a steamy climate. Same cooling over larger surface area means warmer coil.
So it increases the sensible heat removal and decreases the latent heat removal ??
Why would a contractor want to do this while installing a new system?
Just to increase the seer rating ?
They should be using a TXV coil if there using a larger coil to get a certain seer rating.
