At the doctor last week for the yearly greased finger up the butt probe, told him that I was feeling sluggish and shakie lately. Test turned up 350 on the blood sugar scale. Said if had been 400 he would have put my ass in the hospital. Also told me that at that level, working in 100 degree heat could have caused a stroke or heart attack. Thank God for medicine. It's down to 103 tonight. Don't wait!! Get it checked!!

Mine was 440 by the time I saw the doc and found out I had it
One of the symptoms is frequent trips to the RR. I would arrive at work and within 15 min I was running . My boss was close to sending me down for a drug test when I finally got in to a dr.

The look on his face was priceless when I came back and told him that I wasnt on Drugs...you could tell he sure was convinced that I was

by the way , something I experienced that you may to is that my eyesight went bad ...real bed for about two weeks . Your blood sugar level has an effect on the lenses in your eyes and when it is that high the lens distorts . When your sugar stablises again the lens will try to conform to its origial shape but it will never go back to the way it was

that scared me because I had to wear two pair of 3x glasses

I am 32. Diagnosed about 8 months ago with it. I was going through some wild ups and downs with my moods. My whole day started to become a series of rollercoaster fits of being pissed, to being euforic. Then peeing all the time. When I'd get home, I'd be laid out feeling lifeless with no energy. And it all plays on your head to. Right about before I went to the doctor, I myself was starting to think I was going nutso.

I am on medication, that they have had to tweak some. I feel so much better. I feel brand new. Looking back I started to see this stuff happening about 5 years ago. So I had it go unchecked for a long time. I have lost about 20 pounds, just because I am exercising again regular, have to, matter of keeping my body right, and now am eating very healthy, with vegetables and stuff. Cut the drinking down to a beer or so with dinner. I shouldn't even have that but, damn it I am from Wisconsin. There is just no way. .

Once I got going with meds and what not, I was looking at some literature about symptoms, seeing where I compared. The long story short is, I should have been listening to my body a long while ago.

the Dr. told me that MOST people find out they have it and will watch their sugar for awile , then he says he never sees them again untill it is to late and complications set in

I dont know about you but the idea of loosing body parts--having a stroke...not my cup of tea. The bit with myy eyes really scared me

Ask your dr. what weight you really ought to be at and then how many calories a day you can eat to start losing those pounds. Ask dr. just how tightly you need to control your blood sugar(glucose).
    Now start controlling your eating.
(easy to type, harder to practice)
What I've found is that damage to internal organs can start without any symptoms for you to notice. Like enlarged liver/fatty liver, enlarged Spleen.
You just don't want to go down this road.
Because your body's metabolism & chemistry is so upset by diabetes, keep close tabs on your cholesterol too.
I've seen a few news articles where type 2 diabetes is showing up at younger ages. Look around at how many "rolly-polly" blimpy kids you see in a mall. Guess what path they are on ?

They are on the path that leads to the fast food servers in the mall and they are all drinking sodas

It runs in my family. Dad, grandmother, all my uncles on both sides, cousins.

I was also just feeling run down, peeing all the time, drinking enormous amounts of fluids...so much that sometimes my stomach would be uncomfortabley full with liquid and I was still thirsty. Turns out the thirst response has more to do with sugar levels in your blood than it does with if you're dehydrated.

Then two summers ago, we got home late. Wife and daughter stood in the yard counting fire flies in the back field. They counted 45 together in about a minute. I had seen only 5 of them.

I knew what it was and swore off sugar that evening. Now it's diet sodas, sugar free deserts, more fruits, and even vegetables (yuck).

    Saw doctor who agreed.

I feel great! More energy, no afternoon slump, not thirsty all the time. Wish I had done this 5 years earlier but it crept up on me and I didn't realize how crappy I was feeling. Oh, lost weight too. Not alot but it's still nice.

To all, Diabetes is not a joke. I was diagnosed at age 13. I'm 41 now. It has basically ended my carrer. Along with neuropathy fractures to my feet (7 of em), and the loss of toes and bones. Ive also suffered severe retinal hemmorages in both of my eyes. HEED THIS WARNING! This disease is NOTHING to play with!!

    Your absolutely right.

I have been promoiting a healthy lifestyle to even my freinds and family since I was diagnosed.

I see it as a blessing in some way though. I stopped drinking, started exercising, started eating right, quit smoking. I am feeling better with it than before I knew I had it. Sounds weird but thats the same thing I told the doctor last week.

why have you had these problems ? did you not control your sugar levels --did you not take your medications

dont get me wrong , i am asking because I do not want to have these problems and I have only been told that these things are complications...can they be avoided

To be quite honest with you, when I as younger, (teens and 20's), I was invincible. I always took the meds but thought I could get away with acting normal. (i.e. partying and such). Well as you get older, the body doesnt bounce back as quickly. The thought of "it wont happen to me" bites you in the ass. You soon find out very rudely that it can and will happen.

Yes , it can be avoided by doing what the DR tells you to.
and to accept the fact that it will not go away. This will not guarantee that you will not have complications, but it will go a long way in preventing the on set of them.

Thats about as honest as I can be. I hope you follow the Drs regimen to a T.

One of the things the DR told me was that people dont take care of themselves and usually come to him when it is to late.
They told me about having problems with my feet and I never really understood what kind of problems I could expect with my feet or why

I had hoped that if I controlled my sugar levels I would avoid these problems
I feel for you , loosing anything ha got to be terrible

Hear me out. You cant avoid anything. You can however take measures to ward off complications. Foot problems can include: neuropathy ( loss of feeling due to decreased circulation), poor healing of cuts, blisters , etc....also due to poor circulation. Also infections.
Your body and generasl health, along with following Drs orders will go a long way in avoiding these problems. You also need to make regular appointments with an eye specialist. ( not an optometrist that you find at the mall). He can check for signs of proliferative diabetic retinal neuropathy. This is much worse than foot problems.

If you take good care of yourself, and are in good health, there is NO reason you should have many problems.

I'm not trying to scare you or any other diabetic, just tryin to pass on what I've learned the hard way. Pabull

I dont take this as scaring me . This is the kindof information that I want to hear about. this is what I want to know to know what to avoid

I have had my eyes examined by a specialist because my sight went to h#ll once i began controlling my sugar and I was afraid I was going blind . I couldnt focus on anything for almost two weeks. It came back gradually but not totally.

I had hoped that I could control my sugar levels by diet alone and for the most part I can. there are times I can feel it getting low (a headache and hungry are the first signs) only then will I drink a sugared soda . but if I watch what I eat it will fluctuate around 100 . I do take the pills the dr gave me , however there have been days I have forgot to , then I just eat less

anything else you ever have to offer , I will be happy to listen, thank you

    All of you will diabetes

Do what the Doc says. You gotta eat the right foods and take care of yourself.

Otherwise diabetes will take you limb by limb, starting at your feet!
It wont be any fun when they take that first toe.
