I noticed a number of new houses with the A/C units on elevated pads. Why are the units elevated? Are they more efficient or do they stay cleaner longer? Is it worth it to try to do this on an older house?

Those are there for when you get snow. Mainly used with heat pumps from my understanding. They will also help the unit drain better.

I agree, most stands are used with heat pumps in snow regions. My heat pump is on a stand, I live in eastern Ontario.
