Why was the Trane XL13i discontinued? Seer 13 is the standard as of 2006.

I beleive it is because there was no real reason for it.
13 seer can be achieved on a 12i system by adding a TXV and/or a VS fan.
Plus- 13 is not a marketing friendly number. (seriously)

So what do I order to get a seer 13 Trane
So what do I order to get a seer 13 Trane air conditioner? I don't see a 12i offered.

Because Trane had to many product lines (over 10,000 ARI rated combinations of residential equipment before the XL15i and 16i were introduced), and the XL14i wasn't but a few dollars more than the 13i.
I wouldn't be suprised if the XL14i was dropped as part of the revamping of the product line for next year also.
The way I suspect it will shake out is as follows:
XB13 (low end model I still won't sell)
XR13 (middle of the line)
XL15i (as the only single stage XL offering)
XL16i (as entry level 2 stage)
XL19i, or its replacement (as the top of the line)
This is my suspicion only.
Hopefully soon after the 13 SEER realignment, Trane will have another XV varriable capacity system ready. Suposedly they were working on a "XV19" system, but I don't know the status of that, or how true it is.If more government is the answer, then it's a really stupid question.

Re: So what do I order to get a seer 13 Trane
XR12 with 1/2 ton oversized VS air handler. Over 2.5T it comes with a scroll. R22 or R410A, 13.0 SEER. An additional plus is that the footprint is quite a bit smaller than the i series.Originally posted by fdsonn

The way I hear it, the XB13 won't achieve 13 SEER unless with a VS blower

Here's a quick question- I have a XL14i 2.5t system. The Trane site say the 14i is rated UP TO 15 seer.
What is required to bring it up to 15?
VS? Got it-
TXV? Got it-
I should be 15 seer, true?
Thanks-

07-12-2005, 05:55 PM #12It depends on with indoor equipment it is matched up with, there are dozens ARI rated combinations for a 2.5 ton XL14i. Give me the model numbers of all your equipment and I can look it up.Originally posted by old yeller

Here we are 5 months later. Time to revisit the XL13 again. I was quoted a price for a "Trane 4.0 ton XL13 410a" (the exact text from the quote). I went to the Trane website to learn about it but it is now gone.
I live in western NY and run the AC about 3 months with electric costs at $0.15 / kwh. We are going to stay in our 3200 sq ft, two story house for a max of another 5 years. I have been lead to believe that from a resale value, we want to be able to say the house has r410a, not r22, and say that it has a high efficiency furnace, which knocks out the 80% furnaces. I am going to check with some realtors on this.
Question
A responder in this topic, http://hvac-talk.com/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=76942, dated 5/27/2005 said, "Trane phased out the XL13i late last year", which says to mean Trane stopped XL13i production by December 2004. Is it conceivable that my dealer has had the XL13, that he wants to sell me, sitting around for a year?
Question
It is no longer listed at the Trane website. Is it really r410a?
Question
The XR12 with 1/2 ton oversized VS air handler was recommended above as an alternative to the XL13. If I don't get a variable speed motor, does that mean I should look at the XR13 or XR14?
Question
I thought the new law was only 13 SEER and higher. Any idea why "up to 13 SEER" is legal, like for the XR13: http://www.trane.com/residential/pro...ners/XR13.aspx
