Thread: pipe connection on outside unit.

New to the form. Homeowner question.
I had a ac tech install a york heat pump and he didn't use any flux when he brazed the connection. Is this normal practice?

Yes, it can be normal with brazing alloys. There are some eutectic rods that have the flux on them already, and 45% needs flux, but most-dynaflow, 15- only need cleaning and, optimally, a nitrogen sweep during brazing. Soft solders require paste or acid(except in refrigeration systems) fluxes, but that's soldering, not brazing.
