Can a generic expansion valve be used on a Trane model #twd736a100a0. I think I am ripped off. What would be a fair price for a homeowner? Thanks

As long as it is the right size any TXV will work. Genuine Trane parts aren't that expensive compared to generic. Sure would be less work to use the original.

We don't discuss prices on here. TXV change is pricey. I wouldn't do it on what is a low SEER old GE unit. Time to replace the outdoor unit and at least indoor coil.

Thanks for your fast reply. I am still fixing my house from the bad weather from the 'caines here in Fla. Having our AC go out was the icing on the cake! Thanks!!!!!!!!!
