Thread: Fan won't stop running

My outside condenser is running as normal, as directed by the thermostat setting. The fan control is set to automatic. Problem is when the thermostat reaches its low temp it shuts off the condenser but does not shut off the fan which will keep running as if it was set to on.

How old is the furnace or air handler?

The furnace and condenser were installed in 1990. Thanks for your help.

0 that's close to the change over to boards so it could be a bad relay on the board or a bad fan relay, we are talking the inside fan continues to run right?

newer furnace, bad IFC would be the most likely. Old furnace fan control circuit problem..probably IFR. Running continuously is not a hazard..but if it's a newer furnace, I'd have a Tech check it before winter...the IFC controls a lot more than the fan.

barring extemporaneous circumstances.. it sounds like a bad IFC. Is there an error code ? The ifc controls combustion air, ignitor timing, gas valve timing, and all safeties. Get it checked before winter.
