Anyone got any opinions on the creosote sweeping logs is see for wood stoves. I sweep my flue myself about every two years and would much rather throw a log on the fire than climb up on my slippery roof and run a brush through the flue.

Its not a replacement for manual sweeping. It believe what it does is break down or dry out the really nasty stuff so that it can be swept out easier.

they make a powder that's supposed to work better. i still sweep every year. chimney fires can be nasty. and extinguishing can be verry messy.

These logs can only modify the creosote into a form that can be mechanically removed such as brushing. I've never seen one of these logs inspect a chimney either....

It sounded too good to be true. Unless I read the instructions wrong they imply that theres no need to sweep anymore (I wonder how many people stopped getting their chimneys swept?). Didn't seem like a good idea to me (hence the post). I don't work on wood burning appliances just Nat gas and LP. Thanks again for the responses, looks like I still get to play Spider Man on my roof this spring.

Agree w the above. If you have a catalyst in the wood stove, burn it w/out the catalyst in there. They say they are safe/fine for the catalst & to bypass them, but the mfgr said to remove it so that is what I do
