To never argue Religion or Politics has been proved to be
right. I've been an observer and an on and off participant here for almost two years. I've not witnessed one person be swayed to change their position on any issue. It seems we have our built in belief system and that system automatically filters out any arguement, fact or information that does not support what we already believe.

Two people can witness an event in-person in real time and their belief system filters the information to fit their reality. Lets say a white cop is working in the ghetto and is questioning a guy on the street who matches the description of somebody who robbed a lquor store 2 blocks away. Let's say the suspect is not the robber, but is pissed off because in his mind, he's just being hassled by the cop and is somewhat beligerant. The cop is thinking if this guy was innocent he wouldn't be pissed just for identifying himself. The cop's senses are on alert because the guy is acting suspiciously now.

The black guy can sense the cop is getting more convinced he's the guy and is getting panicky and pissed cause he senses he's about to be taken in for a lineup. Anyway it escalates into a scuffle. The cop see's it as resisting arrest and all the black bystanders see it as police brutality.

It's the same incident and people's preconceptions color what they see. It's the same thing here. Those who believe the way we do reassure our own belief system. Those who's views are opposite of our own brings out our defensiveness and beligerance. So all this typing is a waste of time as far as changing anyone's mind. I guess it can be fun to argue .... and those who agree with us can give us little verbal blowjobs of support. But other than that ...the adage is true.

I don't agree with your assessment.......

Hey! Differences of opinions are what makes the world go round. Actually, I have been swayed to feel or think differently by some of our conversations. Just not by geer or nomember

    I agree somewhat with ozone.

If any of you and I are standing on the street corner talking, when an accident occurs right in front of us, we both see the same thing, five minutes later you will tell the wrong story.....

mostly it comes down to ego and I am right and you are wrong. Discussions (meaningful) can't take palce without leaving your ego at the door. On the bright side, most of the people here would agree and do the right thing if the need arose. The most diametrically opposed individuals will join together for the common good. then after that they will kill each other.

The only thing that aggrevates me on these forums is when people make stupid comments without having any backing for them. Otherwise, I may vehemently disagree with another's statements but I respect their opinions no matter how wrong I may think they are.

I never get ticked off. There's no gain in getting ticked off.

The 4 Gospels of the New Testament...Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. Many people think they contradict one another but they actually compliment each other. They are a great example of your original post. Four different versions, four different perspectives, all accurate, all true.
