COMPRESSOR OR TXV

I HAVE AN OLDER UNIT AND WHEN THE COMPRESSOR KICKS ON THE HIGH SIDE PRESSURE KEEP RISING UNTIL IT KICKS OUT ON OVERLOAD, MY QUESTION IS COULD IT BE A BAD TXV VALVE OR IS THE COMPRESSOR SHOT AND HOW DO I KNOW WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM IS?

yea, what does the low side do?

restriction and overcharged. take freon out till you get about 12 degrees subcooling. if superheat high then remove bulb and see if suction goes up and superheat down if not replace txv.

I say the doodad is plugged that releases the heat from the freon turning into liquid. Can't release heat makes pressure go up. I've seen weelows and cotnwod do it alot.
I bet its blowing all flat right now instead of a nice V.
Once thats fixed... its best to double check the superheat or subcool. Lots of times, after you fix it, your superheat goes up and your subcool goes down.

Restriction in lineset would make pressure spike up momentarily then drop. Never seen one go up high enough to trip a high pressure switch though. Arghhh take that back... I have run across a 30 ton semi-hermetic do it. King valve came apart inside and plugged the discharge port. Only time I ever seen that happen though.

I've seen heat pumps do it too when the rev valve stuck or not energized for cool

now wormy you know that doodad thingy is self cleaning
and and those darn weelows wont work with out the cotnwod next to them. and they all will melt if the whoosithingy with the little hole that gets them wet pees on them

Or condenser coil plugged? Or overcharged? Or ????????

You should call a Professional to look at this.
And if you say you are...... Go to another trade PLEASE...

Now if I am a little tuff on you -So be it! You may have checked the items above but you did not give enough information to go on. And it is very un-professional to just condemn a compressor so fast.

if the high side pressure rises gradually, it's a restriction. and that could be restricted in the line drier, the tvx, a kink in the line etc etc. yes, by all means call a pro...

LL blockage does'nt not cause head to rise (watch any pump down unit at end of cycle) unless way over charged to the point that the high side can't store the charge.
