    Confused

Hi. I am hoping someone can confirm my suspicion. My York condenser is barely working. My sig. other says their is ice inside the unit, and on the copper pipe. I am not home to see it, and I won't be home until Friday. The fan still comes on. Please tell me the part which potentially needs replacement.

BTW, what happened to the web site called "The HVAC Guru?". I used to rely on that site for all such advice. Does anyone know?

    Thank you,
    Gloria

Is the ice on the large diameter copper pipe? If it is then the filter in the Air Handler most likley needs to be replaced. It is icing up because not enough air is being cirulated across the indoor coil. Somebody needs to go turn the system off to prevent damage.

    Could be;
    Low refrigerant charge.
    Dirty filter.
    Bad blower motor.
    Restriction in refrigerant.
    Dirty coil.
    Loose blower wheel.

Basically, it could be many things. The fact that it is making ice tells us that it certainly wants to cool your home. Have it serviced so it can do what it wants to do.

Whens the last time you cleaned or changed your air filter.

As robo pointed out, it couold be alot of things.

Call a reliable service company, and have them fix it, and then get a maintance contract on it.

    Thank you, york_hvac

To the one person who did not give me a condescending reply, thank you. There is ice on the copper piping as well.
The unit is off, and I will replace that part and see what happens. I am not sure how long it has been icing up, so I am not sure if there is additional damage. But I think it was only on for two hours.
    Thanks again,
    Gloria

No one gave you a condenscending reply. Sorry you don't even understand enough to realize we were trying to help you.

Wow, asking some one when they change their air filter last is condescending.

Pointing out that with the little info they gave, it could be alot of things is condescending.

Recommending that they have regular maintence checks is condenscending.

So if its not the air filter, will that make york_hvac condescending?

New word for the day, "condescending"!

Years ago I had a funny incident with a then young nephew. While on a drive the song Gloria came on and I mentioned the name of the band that did the song. My nephew corrected me by telling me it is "they" did the song, not "Them" did the song.
