Thread: more efficient?

    Just got a new AC unit. I went with a 10 SEER. I also notice that my old unit uses 45 amp fuses and my new unit uses a max fuse of 30 amp. Same tonnage. The old unit is about 22 years old.

    Does this mean that my new 10 SEER unit is more efficient? Would you say that my old unit is about a 6 or 8 SEER?

    seer numbers sound about right. newer units with scroll compressors have lower starting amps and smaller fuses.
