    Question

After talking/reading about a supplementary Cooling Only unit that could be mounted in the attic, and used to supply air to the second floor only...I am curious if this could be a viable installation to consider?

    Questions:

    1. What would be the correct terminology for a system like this?

    2. What/Where would be the best resource to learn about the function/priciples of an HVAC system like this?

    3. After installation, would I want to close my original ducts during the summer, so that they would concentrate thier cooling on the first floor; the new unit concentrate on the second?

    4. What typical type of savings could one expect from this additional installation?

    5. Suggestions of manufacturers.

    Thanks once again,

    C2

    LOL...

Guess you missed the part about this not being a DIY site.

I consider myself quite mechanically and elecrically inclined; know my way around tools, and am not afraid to take on a hard days workload.

    Questions:

    1. Would it be feasible for me to install a system like this myself?

    2. What would be the correct terminology for a system like this?

    3. What/Where would be the best resource to learn about installation of HVAC equip?

    4. After installation, would I be able to hire a company to "charge" the system, eventhoug they did NOT install?

I must be missing something because I didnt get the joke. as I was reading your question the first thing I thought of was a window shaker, put one of those up there , close all of the vents on the second floor so the first floor will get the extra air, and you are in buisness

you can probably find one at the thrift store at a good price this time of year

Depending on the size the second floor needs, a window unit may be the best option.

It may be better with a mini split, you didn't give enough info for us to make a good guess on it.

I'd leave the supplies open, so teh supplementary on ran as needed, and so as not to restrict air flow over the coil of the main units coil.

Below is C2motorsports original question. He then edited his original post after beenthere's first response.
