have a replacement job going on this weekend. i ordered parts from a supply house wed afternoon i told them i needed everything by fri afternoon they said no problem. i called fri lunchtime to make sure they have everything because if they don't i need to find it asap. they say they have everything. i go there late afternoon they are scrambling when i get there end up not having some parts. the missing parts are some ref elbows. they offered me short radius i told them we need long like ordered. they tryed the, well other people use them crap, so i told them we do stuff right, and they got quite. after 45min they finally had about everything and someone said he would meet me at the job for remaining parts.

here is what i expected. i walk in they say here are your parts (have the invoice printed up not have nothing typed up yet) we just have to get your pipe from the back and i am in and out in less than 15mins am i asking to much???

Nope. I hate that too. You give them several days to get ready and they think they have several days before they need to work on it. You need to train your supply house's. Talk to manager and let him know your disappointed. If he doesn't sound like he gets it then find another supply house and let them know up front why you want to bring your business to them. More than likely it's a lazy counter person to blame or no one was in charge of the order so no one took responcibility for it.

Are you asking to much YES they are no different then us, they get overloaded with work the same as we do.

As for the invoice hmm geez thats not the fitting I thought it would be get me the other kind and I also need..........

Or i'm going to add to the order.

Geez how many times have they heard i'll be by and have a no show. Now they have to re-enter the stock to inventory.

If they are truly bad say something, I do.

Stevehvac: please come up here and train all these counter people around here, i'll buy you a coffee.

No your not asking too much from a distributor. You gave them plenty of time to get your order together and get what parts were necessary. At least to call you back to say if something was not available or can we use something comparable.

vmc1161 the person behind the counter was confident, he even called me back with a question about something. the order was for about 2,000 worth of parts, we do a lot of business with this suppy house as our biggest customer is right around the corner. this supply house has many locations in our area and gets the majority of our money that goes to supply houses for parts. some of the parts were set aside, but some were "missing" at time of sale. as stated i called a few hours before pick up to confirm the order was there, and i would be coming to pick it up.

Steve and topdog thanks i feel better that i was not in the wrong expressing my dissapointment to the people filling the order.

Don't just let it go. Call back and find out how it's supposed to work. We have several suppliers that pull the orders together and have them ready but one particular supplier of duct materials does not. Orders called in to them are large in physical size (therefore they don't have room to pull it all) so even if you've called it in you still have to wait for them to pull it when you get there. If there's a lot of people there it can take as long as an hour. If inventory is wrong then you may not get everything that's on your order so you have to go somewhere else anyway.
Simply tell the manager your expectations and ask if they can be met. Also ask what will be done if they are not.

    Ditto.

I don't go back to restaurants that give me lousy service.

I've had guys forget to order my parts, loose stuff and even try to sell me used parts in place of new. We only have 3 ACR suppliers in town here. One I flatout refuse to deal with because the manager is incompetent, lies to his customers and thinks he's doing everyone a favour just by breathing daily. So I haven't been in there since June '03. They have nothing I need that requires taking the abuse. The second in command I see outside of work once in a while...They are very aware that I don't go there and why.

Hehe, I'm not a coffe drinker. When I say train them I don't mean on how to do thier job. I mean train them on how you want your orders. If you see them all the time, know them by name, and have a relationship with them then it shouldn't be that hard to get them to get your orders together the way you want them.

You may have to express to them how you would like it done and explain why you would like it that way but after a couple times it should work out.

I don't get mad when my orders aren't ready, I get flat out pissed off. Phone calls or letters to the main office of the supplier work absolute wonders. I had a supplier years ago that couldn't meet a one week lead time to save teir life, a letter to the office changed it all. Try it next time.

No, you're not asking too much. MDP is right on the line there. A sincerely worded letter to someone who matters (Owner or president of the Co) detailing your problems and concerns should be sent. If you let this go now, what will happen next time?

    thanks to all

long story short they came thru this morning and delivered the missing parts. they appoligized for messing up the order, but waiting 45 mim on a called in order is still unexeptable we decided we will use another supply house that is a bit farther away but have been good to use so far. this seems like the norm for supply houses with some execptions. we used to get about everything from this chain of supply houses and are getting away from them more and more, becasue of price and well lack of service. I am just glad i live in a large enough area where there are tons of places to get parts and if you don't like one there are more that want our business.

Expect very little from supply houses and you'll never be disappointed. I'm always delighted when they get everything right. Makes me feel like going to the casino.

Maybe I've just been doing this too long, but it seems like much of the help they hire nowadays know very little about their job and have an attitude to boot. Johnstone's the very worst. They're a perfect recipe for an ulcer.

GGggrrrr..I Knew I Was Paying Them Too Much!!!

By the way... Did I mention this guy is psycho? Nah..I mean really twisted... How else could you explain a guy who answers the phone to his good, bad or indifferent customers by yelling into it.. "FFFFFUUUUUU*******!!!" The only reason this guy is still works there....Well, I dunno...I'd have canned his a$$ years ago. They're about 5 or 10% cheaper than the other guys, but I don't have to walk out of his place yelling at the world either.
