Would even the Florida ' Quality ' builders elect to pay?
As far as the time required it is something you do not want to rush through.
Some systems will balance rather quickly & the access to everything is convenient.
Then you have those that require a lot more time to get to everything & will take about 3 passes to fine tune the system. Each building is different.
Builders are a different story, they are as diverse as HVAC contractors.
We have just had an instance a couple of weeks ago where a builder came into our office & requested the services we perform on a new home he is building,he wanted it no other way.
There are only a couple of builders we do work for & they let us do our thing, that is why they use us.
We do not offer this as an option, this is how we do things & is the biggest way we seperate ourselves from our competetion.
When we first started doing this we offered it as an option & found we did not sell much of it.
Then we changed that & included it in the price while educating the customer.
The closing rates for jobs increased because no one else was offering the type of services we were.
You would be surprised at the amount of people who will invest in this with a little bit of education.

    Doc,

How about a heat pump system, wherre the rooms that won't reach the setpoint ,is due to undersized ducts, causing low cfm per ton,and reduced capacity?System is sized correctly or 1/2 ton oversized.

The cost to operate will go down, and when you replace with a higher SEER unit, cost is reduced even more.

This is what we see the most often.

You don't need my affirmation reddog. But you've got it. While the specific measures used in determining system performance might need to be negotiated, there is little challenge in making you a happy customer. You're simply asking for some hard data that the system is performing. That's not hard to do. As we all know, reading the temperature splits and checking refrigerant pressure is hardly a comprehensive measure of system performance. Yet that's extent of what most hacks do after installing new residential equipment.
