I have never heard of the approach method of charging a system intill the other day, i may no how to do it this way just under a differant name. can someone please explain the approach method to me. or was this service tech pulling my leg. it all started when i ask him how much his company was charging for a pound of r-22 and he told me it depended on if they used the approach method or not.

charging by the pound would have no bearing on using any method. but approach method is using liquid line temp minus
    ambient temp.

Lennox is a big fan of the approach method for systems with a TXV.
The only other manufacturer I have seen reference it is when setting up Trane low ambient controls.
If more government is the answer, then it's a really stupid question.
