hello everyone and thanks in advance for any help concerning the AC in my house.

when i turn the AC on in my house, the fan on the unit outside does not come on. instead, it emits a high pitched humming sound.....kinda like the clippers a barber would use. Can anyone give me suggestions on what the problem might be?

i would like to have some idea of what is going on before i call a professional to come out.

ther is no way to tell what is happening or what is wrong
if it does not turn on and it is making a load noise
turn it off call some one and let then find out. could be simple and just routine. or not. turn it off and call

    There could be several causes.
Usually in the spring, service techs replace a bunch of dual capacitors so that's one possibility.
Your problem is more than likely electrical in nature but tinnocker is correct. Shut your system off and call a reputable company out to correct your problem.

If your fan is not running this will cause your compressor to overheat and then trip out the compressor overload

    Not necessarily a contactor.
If low voltage is inadequate to contactor armature, contactor will not close.

if breaker is off could just be the contactor closed and humming. amazing how loud they are sometimes without noise from unit running to drown it out.

call a service company, it will be worth the money spent. if you are fully experienced in electricity, leave it alone! you can really hurt yourself playing with high voltage electricity!
