    Heatpump failure- related to thermostat install?

    I had a new thermostat installed by a professional and that night the motor on my heat pump failed. My question is, can an incorrect wiring of the thermostat cause this failure?

    I doubt it. I'm sure you could fry a heat pump control board by miswiring it, but the motor is only going to run when the control board allows it to run. I think if someone miswired the heat pump, the board would either fail or refuse to run the heat pump.

    Of course, this assumes they didn't accidently or intentionally mess up the AC power to the heat pump. I suspect you could fry a motor with the wrong power wiring, somehow.

    Not a chance that the control wiring can fry a motor. But if he messed with the 120 or 240 VAC stuff in the process, Pandora's box is open for business.
