I just looked at the specs on a DeWalt DC385.
It has electric brake, variable speed, 1" stroke, triger lock, 18volt.

I have also looked at the Milwaukee "The AXE". Their folding handle model.

    What are your opinions?

18 volt Dewalt for me, four years running now, it looks like hell but still works like a charm. I have never tried anything else. some co workers have, Ryobi sucks.
If common sense is so common how come so few of us have it!

    Nevermind.

This sort of post always turns into a Ford vs Chevy debate anyway...

DeWalt is a lot more cost wise than Ryobi, I do a lot of install work and abuse my tools, I have no choice I have to buy quality. for me a Ryobi would not last the year and the batteries the half year. I like Rigids air cooled charger, they look like the real deal,. I am locked into Dewalt with well over 1,000. Rigids band saw may make me start the switch.

I have a rigid set, but I am not as pleased with the durability compared to milwaukee's setup. Dewalt saws are very fast and so far I havent had any problems with the dewalts that are at work!

I would vote dewalt for speed and semi-good durability.
My other vote is for milwaukee on durability but the saw is a bit slower.

Dewalt, faster cutting, longer lasting batteries.

But at the very least... I don't like "the axe". Never can seem to get leverage with that saw that has a folding handle.

    Great deal Crafty,
I had my 18 volt De Walt hammer drill clutch repaired for free after I had it for three years. at a De Walt/Black and Decker repaire center. They were located next to a Hooters I was going into, so I decided to see how much it would be to fix or get a new one, he read the serial number and said no charge, maybe it was under a recall or something.

Dewalt is usually good about repairs, as the company I used to work for broke a drill or recip. saw every few months, we were very hard on the equiptment. Home depot took them back for repairs or replacement at no charge! imagine that. I dont have any objections to home depot other than it drives the little guys out of business.

I really like the dewalts especially because of the radio that doubles as a charger too! now if Milwaukee offered that with there radio I wouldnt use dewalts......

I'm holding off on buying a cordless recip until they make one that twists and bends like the corded PC Tiger Claw.
