I went to do a two unit P.M. in a newer section of Sun City west. A 10 yr old home with an 80 yr old lady.

At first it was just an ordinary P.M. and i was happy the two furnaces were in he garage rather than in the attic

After a while I started noticing things. like EVERY run cap had been replaced! Even in the 2 yr old amana unit. And it didn't have a new comp or ODM to need a cap for that either. Hmm...
Funny thing is as I was checking the 10 year old Rheem furnace I said the blower motor was STARTING to have some wear and it may need replacing in a year or so. Told her about what they go for (giving HER the option to choose if she'd like to replace it as preventive or not).
She said "... you mean I can just have that fixed instead of buying a entire new unit like I HAD to do with the other one?"
Hmmmm I thought. But I don't know the history of what happened with her other Rheem that would have been just 8 yrs old at the time they sold her the Amana.

I actually LEFT this Amana alone as I don't think them caps were going anywhere.

This one the guy went as far as to adhere with cork tape. Although stuck pretty damn good, I could not read the cap with the roll of electrical tape he used around the terminals.

After I strapped it in I decided to CHECK the old run cap...

Hmm... was it REALLY weak? Oh wait a sec!!!!
Looked on the side of the condenser fan motor...
Well sum biatch! The motor TAKES a 3MF run cap. The jerk sold her a 5MF run cap for it!

Someone don't know their Rheem condenser fan motors!

As I did my usual tricks the lady followed me around a bit. She mentioned a few times that she NEVER saw the OTHER guys mess with the drains, and also wondered why I had to strap in someone elses run cap!

as well as LOCATE where the drain terminates... underground.

So... with NO clean out, and the outlet being BURIED, HOW did THEY clear the drain??? Exactly!

So. the deal with this entire call is that I believe EVERY run cap except for the ONE Rheem compressor run cap, and including the blower runs caps, had been replaced. Including otherwise GOOD run caps I believe!
While not doing jack sh*t for the P.M. as far as drains and some other things go.

    What a SHIESTER!!!
That must be how some of them techs bonus each month. Sell, weather it needs it or not!

That's one thing I love about being out here...most of our units are located inside the house or garage, with some in crawlspaces. Either way, better than in the attic.

I have NEVER seen a condensate drain terminate underground. Is that common out there? Our here they are all drained either to a floor drain or to a pump.

What's that big blue hose for? Is that one of your contraptions? Have you got a firehose hooked up to a fire hydrant, with a pump on your truck, to blast clean the condensing coil or something?

The streets get hot so we use swimming pool water to cool them down

Payson - That is why the news crews do so many A/C repair rip off stories. You are a better tech than most of them that have been there ahead of you. Keep up the good, honest work. Hopefully, more HO will follow you around and learn who does good work and quit calling hacks.

    Payson:
I changed a run cap this week and while I was modifying the strap(to mount in a more accessible/secure position) I kept thinking about your Run Cap Bandit Post's. When you get the follow up call on this unit, I wanted you to be proud of me.
Sorry no pictures. Keep posting the pictures.
