how much Benner used to pay you guys to be on call? did Lennox take it away?

Benner was time and a half on anything over 8 hours a day, time and a half on anything Saturday and double time anything on Sunday. Lennox is straight time no matter what on weekends. Time and a half over 40, pay period ends on Friday. No big deal during the busy season, but I would imagine during the slow times, they will cut you off early the rest of the week to get out of paying out the OT. No additional bonus or anything to be on call.

All companies, no mater what industry, work in close approximation with the same budget revenue pie. But those companies, like walmart, will squeeze every last penny out of its employees, its contractors and so on.
I am leary of large companies gobbling up smaller once. It happened with a company Vancouver BC Canada that was the second leader of the CCTV camera design business. A US based national company bought them out, then started laying off there engineers. I walked in to the company, and asked the secretary about this, and she was upset because she lost some good coworkers.
Are there large refrigeration/havac companies that I should stay away from because of this practice? Where they pay a proportional amount of income that is lower then industry standards? I am not interested in making the owner or CEO a millionaire.

Stay away from Lennox period, The rest of the big outfits are kind of good to work for, Trane, Carrier, JC, McQuay and even companies like Jones Lang Lasalle, have way more respect for their employees than Lennox Nas and hopefully the Wal-mart/burger-king of hvac wont dictated or change the rules of the game.

I am also done with NAS. Found a better opportunity and hit the road. I know when I talked to one of the big guys in Florida when I quit, he told me that I was only the tenth guy to quit on my own terms from Benner, (not through failing a drug test) however I have a tough time believing that, because I know of at least five other people who quit... And I didnt know very many people from Benner.

I know a guy who recently quit Lennox NAS. I found out at church this past Sunday.

the simple truth is in order to stop lennox NAS we as technicians need to get the word out to customers. i remember back when i got out of school and took a job as a residential tech it was 98 degrees out and that evening i was out on a service call the edison interrupt box had the 24 volts turned off i got 35 calls one after another, i was pretty sure what they were so i sat in my truck and called every customer and confirmed that the edison interrupt had turned them off i saved those customers at least 75.00 each that evening my service manager wanted to fire me and sent me home when i came into work the next morning the owner of the company called me at home and told me thirty of those customers called in to say they were very happy that there was an honest hvac co still out there, the service manager got fired i got a raise. im telling you this because if this had happen at lennox nas i would have been fired period. lennox nas , walmart ,general motors , chrysler and these fast food chains are a good example of capitalizem gone bad. now if we inform the customer of what lennox is trying to pull and what their dollar is really buying and that a lot of the technicians have limited ability. you would be suprised at how many customers would rather pay more then less to get a quality repair find out for yourself. now there are a lot of good benner techs and those guys will soon be gone and what will be left is 12 and 15 dollar techs or p/m guys and the area managers who think their all that well your not lennox nas had enough smarts to pick you guys because you are easy to mislead not saying your a bad tech just gullible. but then that has become the way of big business find the wanna bees dangle a carrot and they will do what ever you want even make enemys of their friends give them a little authority and boom their hooked they will defend the company in order to make sure they have what they need to make themselfs look good.

NAS customers are mostly large retailers like Gap, Pepboys etc. they dont know or care about the equipment on the roof, you wont beleive the amount of callbacks they get and Lennox charges them for it and yet they pay NAS over and over again to attemp fix the very same problems, IMHO its rigged all the way from the top.

I understand that some of these corporate maintenance facilitators do not have a clue or care whats going on, you will find that if you get the name of the maintenance ficilitator of the stores you are working on you will find that most do give a s$$t. the way you start this is get to know these people as long as they know your honest they WILL listen to you. and they will listen now more then ever because their revenue is down due to the bad economy they are looking to save money. look i know this for a fact just from being called out on a second opinion wher the customer just paid a company to replace a compressor and then a 1 day later no A/C come to find out no air flow due to plugged filters frozen coil was the old compressor bad can't say but the manager was pissed why because this was something that was under contract and was supposed to be done and was not i am saying this because customers do care and if are honest and bring it to their attention they will change HVAC contractors

I wouldnt go as far to say the customers dont care about the equipment on the roof... They may not care what kind of condition its in etc. but they do care about how much they are getting charged to fix the equipment. I know on several occasions with Benner I would go to a location and if I would find a bad compressor, or a bad heat exchanger, the manager would moan and groan about it because at the end of the year, it comes off their profits and it makes them look worse. Now finding a bad compressor or heat exchanger, blower motor, condenser fan etc is one thing. Something legit, they really have no choice or no reason to gripe. It is something that has to get fixed. Now when they start getting bills to replaced pulleys on the roof that are slightly glazed, bills for contactors that are slightly pitted, bills for spray painting units, and all the other unnecessary BS that NAS wants their "techs" to do, thats when they have a legitimate gripe. At the end of the year, they will be able to look at how much they spent in that year for HVAC repairs, and say "well look at this, in the past 5 years that we were with Benner we only xxxxx amount of dollars in HVAC repairs now this year its nearly doubled." I know the manager themselves dont make the call on who their HVAC service provider is. But I know some of their customers like Home Depot, Dollar Tree, and Advance Auto have regional maintenance supervisors, so if enough managers call and ask them what the deal is, it is a possibility if they have other offers on the table they may look into dumping NAS. Especially when they discover the lack of support they get when trying to deal with NAS. I guess it really wont matter to them if they lose any customers though seeing as how I was told, no customer is bigger than Lennox. I guess unless your name is Wal-Mart, Lennox doesnt really care about you.

There was an article in Lennox newsletters featuring a "tech" from Africa, basically he came to the US to visit relatives and nobody showed up at the airport somehow the African came across a Lennox manager and he hired him on the spot. while reading the article came to mind how little Lennox cares about background and experience, basically if you can walk and chew gum at the same time you are a "tech" in Lennox eyes.

when i put in my notice in work was slow we lost accounts I was told lennox was acquiring benner and alpine mechanical in sept .Maybe they are the next victim of the corporate takeover.
