Advertisements are now getting in the way.

Sometime in the past week or so, a subtle change was made to the ad placement on this site.

Now whenever I go to post, the "smilies" section of animated gifs is completely unusable. This is due to the ad section being accidentally laid over top when it should either be reserved for the non-posting pages, or perhaps formatted so that it isn't on top of useful fields.

I'm starting to hold a grudge against the hvac-talk advertisers because every time I look at the ads I am annoyed by them.

    Example:

It's not the advertisers... and thanks for reporting that BACnet.

I'll take it to the IT guys. Let's see if they can redefine the boarders on the right hand column. Seems they are convoluted after our recent upgrade.

This is not a new problem for me. The advertising has always been in the way of something on the site for at least 18 months.

Definitely an IT problem as Lusker said.

    Hey Dave,

    THX for looking into this!

On my home screen, which is a 24" HD format monitor, the box I am now typing in is almost centered (with a big useless space at the left)... and yes, the 'emoticons' are half under the adds.

I well understand the adds drive the site... I just wonder if the post content could be set to the left so there is room for everyone to have their screen real estate...

THX again for looking into it.

This happens on other sites I visit as well... Emotion Icons are too big and this creates an issue. We may have to reduce them.

I've already turned this post over to IT. They will schedule a time slot to look at it for us.

Change the display order of the smilies, set the larger ones to a higher number, they wont display until someone clicks [more]

Go into the Style Manager, All Style Options

You can change the message area width under "sizes and dimensions"

    (I did look that up)

This I knew but IT doesn't like my fingers in their soup... besides, they are still working on the token error and it is in the styling... best leave it for now
