Money,money,money..people do bad things for it.
It can only be two things, they just dont know..or they just
dont care.
Ahhh that mean,mean,mean,Mean Green....Almighty dollar!!
So whats the deal with all these units I see in the Phoenix Metro area that do not have drip legs installed in the gas line before the appliance????? Also I have seen some of the most corroded & rusted piping being used when installing new furnaces... Sad to see that most installers do not value their customers lives very much if at all, just by the way they hack and hack away at the customers installation. Most things I view as "unsafe" are "normal around here" and it is quite frightening in my eyes to install a gas burning appliance in such an un-workmanlike manner disregarding safety information in the installers guides.

I used to live in Las Vegas and I saw alot of that too. How hard is it to put the drip leg on. It takes barely any time to do it right but alot of people just dont seem to care. I guess pride in your work has been forgoten about with some people.
How do they get away with not doing it right? Is it that there was no permit issued?
To tell you the truth, I dont think many companies pull permits in this area, as for my employers I do see permits, but other installs leave much to be desired!
i notice less and less co.s doing drip legs! Why ? $$$
Lazyness? Not knowledgeable enough installers? Who knows.... do the installers even know what the drip leg is for is my question.
I'm a H/O, what is a drip leg and why should I have one?
In Phoenix, every gas pack on a roof lacks proper gas piping. I have yet to see one that has a drip leg or is hard piped. Hack city. same goes for low voltage wiring. Nobody uses conduit for their t-stat wiring. Do you know what Phoenix summer sun does to wire insulation?
Turns it into peanut brittle. What does it cost to put some liquid tight on 3 ft of wire? $4.00 maybe.

Minds are like parachutes. They only function when they are open.
heet; Drip legs are meant to trap contaminates in a gas line. kind of like a sediment bowl on a gasoline or diesel intake line. Having said that, most dirt and oil gets in the line when we are assembling the line.
in n.j. we put drip legs on all indoor equip. on outdoor equip it is no longer allowed.
This is for the H/O who asked what the drip leg is for. It's to keep any rocks, limbs, and Sunamis that may find their way to your appliance.
is it not a wise idea to have drip legs? i mean they arent for nothing! They do have a purpose behind them, to keep things working correctly, and safety!
I have found that when utility companies do work on there lines, that is where most of the miniscule debris ends up coming from... that and when something is done after the meter (say a new gas appliance or something)
