I am closing up a 40 year old UST it does not leak but I'm playing it safe. My dilemma is I have a 30 year old oil/steam boiler that was heating a 2 family home now it is heating just one floor the first floor apt was converted to gas/ hot water baseboard. The wife does not to go thru the mess of installing hot water baseboard. I plan to down size the steam boiler to the correct size but should it be gas or oil I will have to add an AST if oil, which would be more economical to run. Thanks

NG is 100,000 btu per therm.

You have almost all the same fees and taxes on oil, its just not broken down on the bill.

Oil, you pay for it before you use it.

Gas, you pay for what you use.

Both are good heating fuels, And which is more economical to use, is diffrent by region.

Get prices on both stating with oil, and changing to gas.
Then compare prices of both fuels.

And what ever fuel you burn, make sure you balance your distribution thru proper venting at the rads and mains.

That what will save you on your fuel bills.
