You can slip the sensors out of the 1250 or 550 clamps. The SMAN3 comes with beaded TC sensors also. Strap the sensor only to a pipe and use the clamps for some glue project in the garage

The K-type thermistors are more available. the clamps are grat especially for checking superheat, I would not reccomend removing them for some glue project. This is my second pair and they do everything. They make work fun again.

Are you referring to K-type Thermocouples?
They actually have more types of Thermistors on the shelf at my J-Mart.
IMO Clamps are lousy for checking SH, SC or anything for that matter.
You seem happy with them so I couldn't probably even prove it to you but you really believe it is possible for a pipe clamp to be more accurate than a sensor properly insulated from external ambient.
What temp clamp are you so happy with?
I've haven't had so much fun till I've started measuring actual pipe temperatures and it is something special if you have found a clamp capable of that.

I know you keep pounding this issue home, but I have zero issue with pipe clamps, nor does other people around here.

I've used a Fluke 80T-150U probe, plugged into the meter du jour for years with great results, and am now just starting to use K-clamps.

    That's an odd one John.
Is that a Thermistor to mV generator?
    Did yours come with this?

Lots of good info about EMF mV issues and ambient error in there.
Good read for those who haven't picked up on any issues.

Yes, you plug it into your amprobe or VOM, and set it to mV.

When measuring superheat, I typically poke it thru the insultube to hold it against the suction line.

It also comes in handy for other things, like sticking it in the honeycomb air outlet on a supermarket case, or sticking it into a supply or return grill and leaving it there for a while to stabilize. I was using this probe for these purposes long before infared guns became common and affordable.

I have no quarrel with those who wish to tout the virtues of their chosen instruments. I'm merely sharing what I've satisfactorily used....and will continue to use.

    How about that scale?

I guess this delay is still going on. I ordered 2 a month ago from my local URI. Now they're telling me 2 more weeks. This is discouraging.
