I live in southern Ontario Canada and have a cold basement in winter. There is no return air and a lone supply air in the ceiling in my 12'X 17' rec room. Would 1 return air at floor level and 1 extra ceiling supply air; or 2 return airs give me the best comfort? Or is there a better way to go?

Why not put in 2 returns and a supply?
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price has gone.

Every installer has there own opinion, so heres mine. Typically one 6" supply whether it be a round diffuser or a 4x12 ceiling register will take care of 150 sq. feet. So upon deminsions given two is needed with one being dampered. a return would also be great. I was always taught that if you supply from the cieling pull return from the bottom or vice-versa.

You need to know the heat loss (gain) of the space to figure out what's needed. Could be 2 could be 10 we have no way of knowing.
