    The house was built in 1978.

    That is what I thought also.. 1973..

    I guess the unit could have sat in whse for five years.

    If your looking to replace it, look into Carrier's new dual fuel packaged heat pumps.

    if you do, take the gaurds off the condenser coils and throw them away. they are only good for traping grass
