First time posting and glad I found this site. I'm currently in school to be a service tech in CT, but I plan on moving to Florida at the end of Oct. I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice or tips on things I can do to make sure I land a good job down in FL. What's the best way to find a job besides reading the classifieds? Any good companies or jobs to look out for? Looking for anything helpful because I know the licensing and everything is completely different between the two states and I can't get any good answers from any of my instructors about any other states. Appreciate the help.

Tell us what type of work you are looking for and more about your education.

Lots of good and bad companies in Florida, wages are likely less then your home state, but rising all the time.

What part of the state do you want to live in?I can reccomend companies in most areas of Florida, likely help you get your foot in the door.

Licensing is only an issue if you want to work for yourself.A couple of areas have Journeyman test requirements, and with a good school and a prep class ,you should pass without a problem.

Florida is ok if you like non union & it is a right to work state to boot.... High temp combined with high humidity and a "LOT" of attic installed a/h's... Thanks but no thanks, I'll take the high "dry" temps of Arizona before I go back to that swamp!

Thanks for the replies. I'm actually planning to move to the Citrus County area. I've lived most my life in the warmer areas and agree about Arizona, but things are heading towards Florida. Can't wait to get out of CT. I haven't had any experience in the field yet so I really don't know which direction I want to go yet. I just want to have a good salary, a good company to work for, and an interesting job. I just want to make sure I start out in a good direction and figured asking here was a good idea.

I've actually been to the manatee park where the cam is. My future in-laws actually bought a little house in Citrus Springs a couple years ago and I go down there just about every 3-6 months. I was just there in Jan. and am going again for a week in July. We really like the area and have been looking to relocate in that area. I want to make sure I can get a job soon after moving because I'll just be finishing school in Oct. and I'm worried a little about finding my first HVAC job, so any help is greatly appreciated. I spent 4 years in the Army and over 5 years at LEGO as a forklift/warehouse operator, so I'm hoping to do better and hoping to land a good job soon after I finish school. Thanks again.
