Here's the scoop...
I have sometimes thought "what would I do if I could not find work in my field"? In other words, what other line of work would I like to try out instead in case I'm SOL for finding work in my current field?
Well HVAC work has sorta interested me a lot. Not so much for the physical work of climbing into small crawl spaces, bad air circulation or none at all, getting shocked or cut, dealing with arrogant homeowners, etc., but I do realize all that stuff comes with the job. What does interest me though is more along the lines of the technical aspect of the job, the selection of an appropriate system, the electrical wiring of it, getting it charged with refrigerant properly, etc. Those sorta things are what interest me.
So in the event I'm SOL in what I do now, what would be a good route to go in getting started in this field? I was thinking go to a community college and take some courses in heating/refrigeration, then try to get apprenticed by an existing small outfit.
What do you think?
