what do you guys do on a condensing furnace in an unconditioned space to keep the drain from freezing? would you opt for an 80% furnace or protect the drain?
-
We prefer 80%. Hard to find drain freeze protection that is 100% effective. 90s in attics are rare here but usually find one fiasco a winter with one.
-
In our area, any furnace that's in a cold space will fail, unless specified "outdoor use", ie. a rooftop unit etc.
-
so, would you try to find another location or just go with the 80%
-
I'd find another area where it will not drop below freezing..
Or stay with the 80% if you are not able to find an area to keep it warm.

NEVER put a high-efficiency furnace in a non-conditioned space, Just asking for trouble IMO.
