    Confused

    We just bought a house that is only 2 years old with Trane Dual Heat Pumps. Just this morning, we turned on the heat (it had been shut off for the night) and it starting making this hissing noise very loudly out of one vent. I walked in the other rooms and I can't really hear it - it sounds like it is coming out of one vent only.

    Any ideas of what it could be?

    Hissing sound? like water running? could be the line set is running close to that vent and you are just thinking it's coming from the vent. If you can get to that duct easy going to the room were the hissing sound is coming from see if the copper line that runs to the outside unit is close by.

    Is the damper on that one register that's "hissing" all the way closed? I've heard supply registers both "whistle" and "hiss". Flip open the damper louvers on the register all the way and see if the hissing stops.

    Otherwise, check for snakes.

    Too much airflow, high velocity. register blades closed or partly closed. Where is the "hissing" vent in relation to the air handler?

    possible refrigerate leaking (slow leak) have it check up in attic

    Did it start hissing shortly after putting a nail in the wall to hang a picture?
